My speech

Hands up those of you who have a pet at home? (Wait 4 also for people to put hands up)
Ok hands down - How cool would it be to bring your pet to school with you each day? Doesn’t that sound like fun? (Wait of 2s)
My name is Lee and I believe we should be able to bring pets to school and I am going to give you some good reasons why you should agree with me.

Firstly having a pet at school  is not a new idea...Many classes have class pets.  Having a class pet is a great experience for kids because children can learn about their class pet, it teaches them responsibility and develops a love of animals. For example, if we had a class pet and we learnt how to look after it, we could look after our pets at home as well. It would also teach us to tidy up after ourselves and keep a clean and tidy house.

Secondly, having a class pet can motivate us with our learning. For example we can draw, describe it, write about, how to look after it, what to feed it and how they behave. We could start a class blog or diary written from the pets point of view. We could get books from the library about our class pet so we know even more about how to look after it and keep it happy. The teacher could use the class pet as a reward for good behaviour and learning. If a child is doing really well in class - they can have some play time with the class pet or even take it home for the weekend.

Finally a class pet can fix a lot of problems like if we’ve sad we could cuddle them, if you’re lonely you can play with them if you’re feeling unwell - they can comfort you. Pets can also be very funny to watch as they often do funny things like making funny sounds

Overall, I have shared with you all of my ideas. Now don’t you agree that every class should have a pet? Well  I do. You should too! So come on, persuade your principal to let your class have a pet, you won’t regret it!.

My book review

‘Hippos can swim’, written by Pablo Bernasconi is an  adventurous and humorous story.

The author wrote a story that has important messages, such as never give up, attempted challenge. He wants the readers to understand that everyone ( or animal ) is good at something The illustration are colourful creative and cute.

The story is about a hippo that doesn't want to swim. Instead he tries to find another activity to do he tries to do the same activities as lots of different animals. Which activity will he succeed at? Read the book to find out.

My favourite part was watch the hippos trying all of the different activities.

Yes, we liked the the book because some parts were humorous and the illustrations were bright and colourful. We also liked how the hippo preserved and faced challenges bravely.

Overall,In my opinion you agree that hippos can swim is worth a read I give it a 4½.

Turtle writing

                                              Turtle writing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One smart and powerful turtle is very brave. Its shell is as powerful as a house and its flippers are like a bird’s wings.  The plants are really colourful………..red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, rainbow colours that are very vibrant.
If you dive into the water, you can hear the waves crash and the turtle’s flippers slapping hard. You can hear the big, strong sea trees waving up at the turtle you can also see coals from down below.

The water is not deep but the sea is as blue as the never ending sky. The water is very warm, it’s beautiful and it’s very relaxing.

George's Grandma

Is your grandma warm, cuddly kind and loving? well if she is, she's very different to George's grandma?

George's Grandma doesn't smile very often but when she smiles wickedly at George you can see her brown rotten teeth. Grandma has a bad small mouth . Grandma’s voice is so bad she sounds like squeak squeak.

Hopefully your grandma is warm cuddly and loving but if it’s not I have a recipe for you.

How To Make Coconut Cream

Coconuts are a key ingredient in Samoan cooking. Every part of the coconut is used. You can eat the flesh raw or use it for cooking, you can drink the juice, the shell makes a handy cup or, together with the husks, you can fuel a cooking fire. The most widely used product from the coconut is coconut cream, so let me describe how the cream is traditionally made.

You will need: coconut/popo,knife,scraper,coconut husk and bowl

How to make coconut cream

1} First collect what you need.

2} Then get the coconut and use the back of the knife to break it in half.

3} Take the halved coconut and a scraper. If you're left handed put your left hand on the bottom of the coconut put your right on the top of the coconut and turn it around. If you’re right handed you have to do the reverse

4} After you will have the flesh. Now put some of the coconut flesh into the coconut husk. Twist the tauaga (husk) and squeeze tightly. Repeat this until the cream comes out.

5} Now you have the coconut shell put it in the fire. For the dried coconut feed to pigs or chickens and enjoy your freshly made coconut cream

States of Matter

States of Matter

This is all about states of matter today I will tell you about states of matter I hope you
enjoy this I’m going to tell you about: solids, liquids and gases.

Solids
Solids are something really hard like tables playgrounds. They have their own shapes.
The molecules are really close together.

 Liquids

Liquids are something like: water lemon juice and coffee. They don't have their own
shapes bottle or container. The molecules are not really close but a little bit spreading
out.

 Gases
Gases have molecules which are spread out. Here’s some examples about gas.
Oxygen and air is gas. The molecules spread out very quickly.

This explanation text explains why solids, gases and liquids are states of matter. States

of matter can be found everywhere.

A letter from Galipoli 27th April 1918

Dear Linda,
It is a very shocking war. There are a lots of flies. Some men were killed by the hot golden shells, Some people were worn out. There were all different type of gun sounds like the snipers and machine guns. There were terrible sounds of the men fighting the enemy. But the worst thing is to carry the guns, bullets and water. We have to carry the guns and bullets and water up the hill.. I am hating the noise that the guns make. The hills was narrow to escape. The war is dangerous I can hear the bomb BOOM! It is a very scary war.

School photograph

Dear photographer,
I’m writing to you to express my opinion about the way you take the photos photographs.

Some people  really like how you arrange the size of the photos because everyone can see it clearly .

Surely when you take the photo people are looking in the camera.

It is clear that the backdrop is very clear and neat.

People like the way that you tell everyone in the photo to smile.

I really feel that the photo is perfect.

I also like the uniform colour with the backdrop which is red because it goes  with green.
I’m absolutely certain that you should read my ideas most carefully. You may or may Not agree with my opinions,
but please do consider them. I look forward to hear back from you

your sincerely,
Lee lin

Tangaroa and the Taniwha

The day was very dreary and also very stormy. “Splash” big waves crashed against each other. The wind was very powerful. The sky was filled with That dark cloud. The Maori had left Hawaiki in their wakas in search of a new land.

Suddenly from the bottom of the ocean rose a bad taniwha. The taniwha looked like a green sea dragon, had scary eyes and a big scary face. The terrible taniwha ate some of the wakas.

Hearing the sound of destruction brought Tangaroa to the surface to see what was happening. Tangaroa was the god of the sea. Tangaroa was a strong god and had a moko on his face. He had long hair and was a giant. He was a sea warrior, he was muscular and he was fearless. Tangaroa held his taiaha in his strong hands.

Tangaroa whacked angrily and shouted “what are you doing in my moana?”. Tangaroa again whacked angrily his razor sharp patu into the taniwha’s enormous flesh. The taniwha growled out in agony “Arghhh’’. The taniwha was bleeding so much that the ocean turned red and all the wakas were whero. The ocean looked like a sea full of blood. The taniwha lay in three pieces.

And over time the three pieces of the taniwha became the three islands of New Zealand

Waka

Splash! the oars quickly submerge. The warriors look very strong and fierce. The warriors are energetic and powerful and ferocious. The warriors shout “tahi ,rua ,toru ,wha”. Some of us have tattooed arms and some warriors have tattooed faces. We are ready for war.
The waka’s bow is like a knife. The waka has red lines that represent blood. The waka is very long and big like a taniwha.
